Australian Referee of The Year, Luke Mackney of Goonellabah, has been appointed to officiate at the National Secondary Schools Championships to be conducted in Rockingham (just South of Perth) from the 2nd – 7th August.

Luke was nominated by Northern NSW Football and is one of eight referees nominated by Football Federation Australia as match officials for the tournament.

And the national governing body has acknowledged the depth of talent across Northern NSW, with four referees allocated by FFA to a pre-season fixture between the Central Coast Mariners and Wellington in Dubbo. Hunter Region based Northern NSW Referees Stuart Wolfe, Rodney Allen, Ryan Gallagher and Tim McGilchrist have been selected to officiate on the match being played on Saturday.

‘This is a great testament to the quality of officials being developed within Northern NSW and each of these officials are to be congratulated on being recognized in this way,’ Northern NSW Football Operations Manager Alan Nisbet said.

‘Luke has already had an outstanding year, recognized as Australia’s Referee of The Year at the recent Australian Football Awards and this is just another accolade for him.’

‘Rodney, Stuart, Ryan and Tim have been granted the A-League fixture as a direct reflection of their ability and respect with which they are held at a national level,’ Nisbet concluded.
