Sarah Drake Wins Referee Of The Tournament at Kanga
Sarah Drake had a little bit of extra weight in her luggage at Gold Coast Airport last weekend, when she returned home after officiating at the largest football tournament in the Southern Hemisphere, the Kanga Cup.
Sarah was sent to Canberra with 4 other referees from the Far North Coast to officiate at the Kanga Cup and was awarded the Referee Of The Tournament.
Sarah was selected out of approximately 120 referees from around Australia, with the award being selected by the group of referee assessors who were at the tournament.
President, David Nolan, who attended as an assessor, said that “the award was a fitting recognition for the standard of Sarah’s officiating throughout the tournament and I congratulate Sarah on her great achievement”.
The award follows on from the success of our referees last year, when Tiarna Kinnear received the Junior Referee Of The Tournament.
Nolan said that “all 4 of the referees who attended the tournament were very impressive and represented our branch very well”. Nolan said that “all the other assessors were very impressed with our referees from here on the Far North Coast and this was reflected by the appointments of all our referees on Grand Finals”.
Sarah Drake was selected as the referee for the Grade 18 Girls Grand Final, Tiarna Kinnear was selected as the referee for the Grade 16 Girls Grand Final, David Henville was selected as the referee for the Grade 14 Boys Grand Final and Damien Parker was selected as the assistant referee for the Grade 16 Boys Grand Final.
