TANYA De Boer receives Glen Gibbs Referee of the Year Award
Last Saturday night, Tanya De Boer made history by becoming the first female to receive the prestigious Referee of the Year Award, at the Annual Football Far North Coast Presentation Dinner.
The award, which is voted by the Premier Division coaches and assistant referee’s, is one of many outstanding achievements for Tanya this season. Earlier this year Tanya officiated at the Girls National Titles in Coffs Harbour and she has recently been selected to be part of the assistant referee panel for the Women’s A-League, which is due to start in October.
Also on the night, it was announced that the Referee of the Year Award will be re-named as the “Glen Gibbs Referee of the Year Awardâ€, in honour of Glen’s service and achievements in refereeing.
Glen announced last month that this will be his final year of active refereeing, after 30 years of continuous years of service. Over this period he has officiated at State Level for both Northern NSW and QLD, he was on the Assistant Referee Panel for the National Soccer League (now known as the A-League) for 6 years and has been an assistant referee on 5 International games, including Mark Shield’s first international match.
At a local level, Glen has established himself to be one of the leading referee’s in the Football Far North Coast zone and has been a Referee and Assistant Referee for many Premier Division Grand Finals over the years and has received 5 Referee of the Year awards, which is the most of any referee.
Congratulations to Tanya and Glen on their deserving accolades.
